Angela Whitbread is a social impact investor, philanthropist and a former Managing Director and Chair of her family business, The Whitbread Insurance Group, which was sold in December 2017.

Angela, along with her siblings inherited the family insurance-based business when their father passed away in 2009. At the time of her father’s death, there were 50 staff. Angela had already been in the role of MD for 6 months.   During the next 8 years under Angela’s stewardship, the business grew exponentially and in 2017, the staff had doubled to 100 people. The business was sold for 7 times its enterprise value in 2019, at a record high as a multiple of EBITDA. Angela’s success was largely due to establishing a culture based on the human values of integrity, professionalism and entrepreneurship.

Since retiring from the corporate world, she has been focusing on supporting organisations who empower people to access their own innate leadership and solve problems for themselves. Increasingly these organisations are social ventures, aligned with having a strong sustainable, diverse and positive people and environmental impact.
